Evan Peters will be reprising his role as Quicksilver for Fox’s upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix movie.
Evan Peters, who portrayed Peter Maximoff aka Quicksilver in Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse will reprise his role for a third time. THR reports that though Quicksilver was not part of the Dark Phoenix comic book saga, he was enough of a fan favourite in the X-Men film series that he’s being written into Simon Kinberg’s new flick.
The character has garnered popularity in the X-Men film franchise for the highly choreographed scenes that showcase his super-speed powers. In X-Men: Days of Future Past, Quicksilver saved Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) from certain death when he used his powers to take down a room full of armed guards and divert their bullets. In X-Men: Apocalypse, Quicksilver saved most students in Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters after an explosion was triggered at its core.
No specific details were revealed about how Quicksilver will fit into Dark Phoenix, but we can surmise that he’s still using his super speed for good nearly a decade after the events of Apocalypse. Along with the X-Men movies, Peters is well known nowadays for his work on American Horror Story.
Also joining the cast is Lamar Johnson, who may be unknown to U.S. audiences, but is one of the stars of the Canadians show The Next Step. Jessica Chastain is rumored to be coming on board as well. Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, and Kodi Smit-McPhee will also be reprising their roles.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix, directed by Simon Kinberg, will recount the events that turned the psychic mutant Jean Grey into the all-powerful creature Phoenix, as portrayed in the Dark Phoenix Saga comic book arc that ran from January to October in 1980. The film will begin production in Montreal this week.
