Unbelievable, This Marvel Directors will Write and Direct ‘Batgirl’!

The first time, I heard about it, I was shocked. Joss Whedon is someone behind the success of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. I assumed he is such a Marvel guy, but all of sudden, He is to direct DC Movies. I just still cannot believe it. Marvel and DC Comics are an archenemy. How come he easily jump between them?

Yeah. Maybe I just don’t understand the case yet. Way back in 2005, Warner Bros. actually had hired Joss Whedon to write and direct a Wonder Woman movie. This was long before the current wave of DC Comics movies were even in discussions. Batman Begins hadn’t even hit theaters yet. But, Whedon’s movie never materialized, and he shifted from DC over to Marvel to write and direct The Avengers and its sequel.

But as fate would have it, after two Marvel’s movies with successes, he is reportedly shifting back to DC Comics. That’s at least according to Variety’s bombshell scoop that says the Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator is in talks to write, direct and produce a Batgirl movie for Warner Bros.

It’s an incredibly surprising move, particularly considering Batgirl (aka Barbara Gordon, daughter of Gotham City police commissioner) is a character that hasn’t popped up in talks about any of Warner Bros.’ brewing DC extended universe movies. But if it does come to pass, it would further establish an interesting distinction between DC and Marvel’s movies. Marvel has yet to make a movie with a female lead (Captain Marvel will be the first, and that is still years away). This would give DC Wonder Woman, Gotham City Sirens and now Batgirl.

That is, of course, if this deal does indeed happen. The DCEU is in a constant state of flux, with movies that seem like a sure thing (The Flash) failing to launch as expected. But if it does happen, one would hope it’s because Whedon has a vision for Batgirl that he just absolutely must make.

There is no further news about the casts yet. But, from my prediction, Emma Watson or Anna Kendrick would fit the character. How about you? Who do you think should take the role of Batgirl?
