Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, When A Clone Becomes the Original

I think this is not the end

Frequently, the game-adapted film will have negative reviews, even for the film I prefer like Assassins Creed. I do not know, I think people who played the game expect the same excitement and fun while watching the film. But, it is nearly impossible to achieve that. It is much better to develop the original story rather than adapting the game-play into the big screen. Resident Evil is successfully applying this strategy. The film franchise is loosely based on the Capcom survival horror video game series Resident Evil. And you will see the result, six film installments since 2002. This is such an achievement but this year, the history ends after the release of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

The Final Chapter is a direct sequel of Resident Evil: Retribution. The film starts when the Red Queen tells Alice that there is a way to cure humanity from T-Virus. There is a cure in a Hive under Raccoon City and Alice had to get there within 48 hours. Along the way, Dr. Alexander Isaac’s clone successfully capture her. She manages to escape and continue her journey to Raccoon City. Luckily, she was saved by the group of survivors;  Doc, Abigail, Christian, Cobalt, Razor, and Claire Redfield. Alice told them that there is an airborne antivirus in Hive. They must spread it out through the air before mankind is wiped out from the earth. The bad news is Dr. Isaac is coming with group of armored vehicles and a horde of zombies. There is no choice left for them except getting to the Hive entrance. Unfortunately, the members were killed one by one.

The rest of the people are already at the Hive. The Red Queen revealed that Umbrella executives, including Dr. Issac, were developing T-Virus to cleanse the world. They only saved the rich and powerful people and let the rest of population wiped out from the world. The survivors later can rebuild the new, better world after the mankind extinction. The time is running out, Alice and her team enter the Hive. They plan some bombs to explode the Hive once and for all. Alice later confronted the Real Dr. Issac. He told Alice that she is just a clone of Alicia Marcus, Umbrella’s co-leader and Marcus’s daughter. Alice is so down after hearing it but Alicia convince her as the better version of her. She did the best to save mankind, fight Dr. Isaac to take the antivirus. Alice did something the real Alicia never could do.

I am not a fan of Resident Evil. I even never play the game before. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is also the first Resident Evil film I ever watched. So, I think the story is little bit confusing. The plot is very straightforward but there is too many conflict in there. Betrayal, moral issue and revenge are making this film more complicated than it should be. Also, Alice seems like a superhero. She is too powerful. I even think she can enter the Hive by her own. However, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is not so final. In the end of the film, Alice travels to Manhattan while several large creatures still pursue her. For me, It seems like there will be another Resident Evil film in the future.
