Raditya Dika is back!!! Koala Kumal is another success works from him so he continues exploration to the next level. Raditya Dika is a phenomenon Indonesian’s entertainment industry. People, especially teenagers, will consume every single work he produces. Book, stand up comedy show and film he made will make people laugh. After years of experience producing love-comedy content, Raditya Dika seems to explore beyond his comfort zone. Still in comedy, but now without “menye-menye” love story. Instead, audience will see blood and dead body in his latest work, Hangout.
Hangout starts after 9 public figures in Indonesia entertainment industry, aditya Dika, Prilly Latuconsina, Mathias Muchus, Titi Kamal, Gading Martin, Bayu Skak, Soleh Solihun, Surya Saputra dan Dinda Kanya Dewi. They got the secret and weird invitation to go to a mysterous island but they accept that by the way. Ater they arrive on the island, we met Prilly who have came first before them. Then, they go to the big but old guest house located in the middle of the island. Everything they need is mysteriously served even though there are no other people in the house, including meals.
Unfortunately, this is the start of the terror. One by one, they are tragically killed by poison, spears or knives. It seems someone haunted them down. There is nothing to do beside waiting for the right time to kill them all. If they go and spread out in the unknown jungle, it gives the chance to the killer to take their life. After 2 days, 4 people are still alive. However, they start to blame and be suspicious to each other. What they don’t realize is there is one victim that die with missing body. She is the true killer. She demands a revenge of the dead of her father.
Raditya Dika seems like to prove himself and go beyond his comfort zone. But it doesn’t go well, at least for me. The mystery is a good point. It makes me think even though it’s not really hard to guess. Don’t compare it to Sherlock or even Conan because they’re not in the same genre. Guessing and blaming is the soul of this film but Raditya Dika doesn’t explore it enough. There is some plot hole and illogical scenes. I underline the last part. Why could Dika and Sholeh fight back Prilly? Why did they talk too much and lay on the ground, and do nothing rather than try harder to stop her? However it’s not a matter since the comedy save the film.
